I’m still under the influence of the Testament’s performance at Avalon Nightclub in Santa Clara, CA. That was a great event, exactly what I needed and even greater than I expected. Why? First of all I liked the place, the small venue with bar and tables, so you can listen to you favorite music sitting, standing, drinking, eating, going insane…whatever. But also surprisingly the venue had a great acoustic. The second reason is the Angerhead. The Metal band from San Jose which I heard at first time in my life. Very liked the melodic heavy aggressive stile of the vocalist Paul Hastley, who by the way also is a nice person to talk to. I spent with him several minutes at the end of the evening.
We had a conversation about some Russian musician, who unfortunately I was not familiar with, about the Testament and a Bay Area as a heart place for the worldwide Thrash Metal.
I bought their CD with 3 songs on it, Paul kindly signed it for me. I wish luck to the band, because they really have a high potential. Hope someday to buy their LP. Meanwhile, check up the video I filmed. Unfortunately, I do not know the song title. Please, send it to me if you know. (!!! Update: Just got the song name from Paul-“BLACK SUNRISE”)
Next, Hatriot came up on stage… They were also new to me, I enjoyed their Metal as well. I was standing behind the stage right next to Chuck Billy, who came out the dressing room, had some beer and listed to the music. Here are pictures of Hariot’s performance, provided by Digital Diversion. They also made great pictures of Testament.
Finally, Testament hit the stage and performed about 75 minutes. They were able to cover their old era as well as the latest one, making an awesome vibe. Here is the setlist:
- The Preacher
- The New Order
- The Persecuted Won’t Forget
- Practice What You Preach
- Over The Wall
- Souls of Black
- Into The Pit
- The Haunting
- Electric Crown (!!!Heaven knows how much I love that song, first time heard it live!!!)
- Henchmen Ride
- More Than Meets The Eye
- Disciples Of The Watch
- 3 Days In Darkness
- The Formation of Damnation
Never saw them so close, damn that was my dream. Unfortunately was not able to hang out with the band after the show… Tried to get close to them outside, but the security guys told us to leave. Nevermind, I really enjoyed being there. If they can read this, I really would like them to know that for me they are the part of Big 4, just as Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer.
Tomorrow, there will perform Michael Schenker Group at Avalon, still not sure if I will be able to attend, but anyway this week is a great for me, because on Thursday I go to see Megadeth and Motorhead. Cheers!
