Volbeat – The Strength/The Sound/The Songs

After hearing Volbeat twice live, I decided to buy their first album “The Strength/The Sound/The Songs” on a vinyl record. Why the first album you ask? First of all as person who is not really familiar with the band, I had to start from something. But the main reason was the song “Pool of Booze, Booze, Booza” I liked  when they played it on Gigantour. The album was released in 2005, so I have the originally pressed LP. Interesting thing is, that there is a note on a sleeve says it’s a limited edition colored vinyl, but when I opened it I found a regular black vinyl, so I do not know what they meant by saying it’s colored. Actually, black is also a color, so I don’t blame them. Anyway, I bought it because of music.

The album has 15 songs, eight on side A and seven on side B. I cannot say I liked all the songs, but some of them I really did: “Something Else or…”, “Rebel Monster” , “Say Your Number”, “Soulweeper”, “Everything’s Still Fine”, “Healing Subconsciously”. And I really liked how they covered “I Only Wanna Be With You“.

The LP comes in two smooth sleeves.  The external sleeve has a band’s picture and a song list on its back, the internal one is well illustrated and has all lyrics and credits:

The vinyl logo is brown:

As I said here I liked Volbeat because of the special singing manner of Michael Poulsen, but also  because of heavy and sharp sounded songs where the melodic chorus is usually leaded by the double drum bass, which I find very cool. While I was waiting for the record, I listened to their other songs online, so I already have some ideas what album I’m gonna buy next.
