Testament – Dark Roots of Earth

Despite on my tense relationships with Nuclear Blast Records, I was not able to stay silent about the new awesome Testament’s album released last month titled “Dark Roots of Earth“. I received the vinyl couple of days ago and absolutely love it. I really felt hungry for some new good Metal and finally I got it!

The album comes on double picture vinyl inside the fantastically beautiful gatefold sleeve.

The album consists of 9 tracks, but the vinyl edition comes  with 3 bonus cover songs: “Dragon Attack” of Queen, “Animal Magnetism” of Scorpions and “Powerslave” of Iron Maiden. I mostly liked the Scorpions and Maiden covers.

I really liked almost entire record. I say almost, because I did not really appreciate the first track “Rise Up” and I noticed some volume level drop for several seconds listening to “Native Blood”, but besides that I have very positive impressions on the album and can’t stop listening to it.

My words cannot describe the beauty of the record, so I prepared some video which should not make Nuclear Blast folks so upset this time, because it does not include songs in  full length, but as samples only. It’s a kind of medley.  I made this video for appreciation only in order to  let you guys know how great the album is in terms of music and design. Hope, you will enjoy the video and if you still did not purchase “Dark Roots of Earth”, that video might definitely give you some push to get it.

Hi there. I just picked up the album on blue vinyl, and I just have a couple of questions: What is your opinion on the sound/mastering? To me, it seems a bit “muddy”, compared to the cd. And did you get lyrics and production details etc. printed on the inner sleeves? I just got plain black ones…so no details about the album whatsoever:-( Otherwise, great review and great website:-)

Thanks for visiting my website. I did not notice any “muddy” sound, to me it sounds very well, but I did not have a chance to compare it to CD.
Regarding the sleeve, I do have all lyrics. You can see the video in the article where I also show the sleeve.
    Rock on!
