One of the greatest albums released this year is definitely Black Sabbath’s new record titled 13. I preordered my vinyl several months ago and received it last week. What I can say… It’s a classic Sabbath, sounds like many-many years ago when I discovered them being a teenager. This record actually gave me a feeling that I’m listening to something new, but at same time extremely familiar. Exactly what I wanted. And I’m not disappointed.
Of course I knew what to expect, because I’ve heard “God Is Dead?” single before the album was released. This song really impressed me, that’s why I decided to include it in my short video, where I demonstrate the vinyl set. Well, why am I so surprised? I’m talking here about patriarchs of Heavy Metal who collaborated with a great producer Rick Rubin, who also worked with Slayer, Metallica, Danzig, Red Hot Chilli Peppers , AC/DC and many others… Also, Sabbath sounds naturally with Ozzy. I really adore Dio, but Ozzy’s voice makes Sabbath a real Sabbath, if you know what I mean.
So, the album comes on two records in a gate-fold sleeve. Very nice looking one. I really like the illustrations and the 13 number in a fire…
The back side of the external sleeve has the list of the songs:
The internal sleeves have the lyrics; greetings from Ozzy, Tony and Geezer; and all album credits.
In a bit more than one week from now, I fly to Israel, so last Sunday I went to Streetlight Records store here in San Jose to buy some presents for my friends, and of course I purchased this album on a CD (my friends still listen to CDs). I was very surprised when the cashier said that they have some promotion stuff to give me, related to 13. I received a poster, “Is God really Dead” sticker, a little 13 sticker which I already put on my truck, and a little nice badge. So, if you purchase the album in a physical store, you might still get this stuff there.
The Band is going on tour now and I really can’t wait to see them in August in Mountain View, CA and to hear the songs from this record live. Hope to see some of you there as well. Cheers!
