This album just celebrated its 30th anniversary, but every time I listen to it, the music amazes me just like at the very first time. This is probably my very favorite album from Judas Priest, “Defenders of The Faith”, released in 1984 and it’s the 9th studio album of the band.
I’m extremely lucky to have it on the originally released record. Some time ago I found it brand new on eBay, which is very rare. I have no idea how the re-mastered vinyl sounds, but the original one literally warms my soul. Released by Columbia records, comes on a single black vinyl in a sleeve with a relatively modest design.
The internal paper sleeve has a band members pictures on one side and songs lyrics on the other one:
But the real treasure hides between the grooves on the vinyl, where almost every track is my favorite. The album contains 10 songs, but the last two (“Heavy Duty” and “Defenders of the Faith”) are kind of combined into the one. My very favorites are “Rock Hard Ride Free”, “The Sentinel”, “Love Bites”, “Some Heads are Gonna Roll” and “Night Comes Down”.
BTW, “Jawbreaker”, “Love Bites” and “Defenders of the Faith” Priest performed in San Jose National Civic Center on November 16 2014, where I saw them last time. I was standing very close to the stage. It was my very first time when I saw the band so close.
On March 2015, Judas Priest will release Defenders of the Faith special 30th Anniversary Edition on 3 CDs, which will contain the re-mastered album and, as far as I see, two live performances from the album tour. Please use the link at the beginning of the post to pre-order it (pre-order code is #defenders30). I only wish they will release this anniversary edition on a vinyl set, but even if they wont, I still feel extremely lucky with the one I have.
I will listen to it again right now. My family is still asleep, so looks like some heads are gonna roll!
